Shaanxi Rainbow halts rare earth red phosphors production

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 25 Apr 18 - Shaanxi Rainbow New Material Co., Ltd. ("Shaanxi Rainbow" or "The plant" for short) halted rare earth red phosphors production this week for overhaul and avoiding large volume of stocks. The plant plans to resume production after the Labor Day holiday (from April 29th to May 1st). The plant's red phosphors output in March were around 15t, without much change MOM.
"We have 3 firing furnaces for red phosphors, whose daily production capacity is around 650kg. But we only operated 1 over the past year due to the poor demand," said a source from the company.
Shaanxi Rainbow New Material Co., Ltd., which is a holding company of Rainbow Group New Energy Share Co., Ltd., focuses on researching, producing and sales of CRT powder, LED powder, rare earth phosphor powder, all kinds of light powder, conduction of electronic pulp etc. The plant owns an annual production capacity of 1,000t for rare earth phosphor powders.
The current red phosphors prices are RMB85-90/kg (USD13.4-14.2/kg) D/A 90 days, without much change from early this month. Although the market is oversupplied, suppliers refuse to accept price declines due to their thin margins. It is forecasted that the Chinese red phosphors price would continue to show stable trend in the coming week.
