1. Market Highlights
During early-to-mid this month, most market participants in ended purchases of silicomanganese for March. As the capacity hasn't been fully recovered from steel plants in North China, the demand for the material was sluggish and the spot market saw limited deals with slipping offers. In late March, the sluggish continued in the market and prices have dropped to RMB7,800-8,000/t (USD1,244-1,275/t) Inc-VAT EXW D/P, down by about RMB400/t (USD63.77/t) from RMB8,200-8,400/t (USD1,307-1,339/t) from early this month. The purchase price declined by RMB300/t (USD478/t) for April from steel plants and downstream consumers were in low interests in purchases and thus the spot prices are expected to decline further in short time.
Early-to-mid this month, enquires of manganese ore were limited at ports. However, spot manganese ore prices firmed up based on firm overseas prices . In addition, the stocks fell in short supply at ports, provided multiple factors for high manganese ore prices . From mid-to-late the month, deals were limited in the spot market and consumers were inactive in sending enquires . Traders lowered offers slightly to promote sales. Up till late the month, prices for Australian manganese ore moved down by as high as RMB3/dmtu (USD0.48/dmtu) and the market is expected to move downwards in short term.
