Malaysian bauxite export market quiet

A bauxite owner in Malaysia reported that they had no new deal concluded over the past two months, as Chinese demand is weak. “Buyers complained about high silica of our bauxite and they moved to Indonesian market,” said the source, adding that they still offer USD32/t FOB Malaysia for bauxite Al 52%min Si 15%max.
According to the source, they exported around 50,000t of the material at around USD32/t FOB Malaysia in August. In the first three quarters, they exported around 350,000t in total.
Based on the capacity of 200,000tpm, the owner holds around 50,000t in stock and is now out of production.
A trader in China confirmed that they only imported around 100,000t of Malaysian bauxite in the first quarter of this year and then watched the market. “A major Malaysian bauxite consumer stopped production in March,” explained the source, adding that the export ban continues in Kuantan of Malaysia.
Their sales price for bauxite Al 40%min Si 5%max was around USD38.5/t CIF China in March . Currently, they hold no stock.
The trader plans to deal with Indonesian bauxite in the near future, as more and more owners in Indonesia will get export quota.
