The above graph shows that imported alumina stockpiles continued to keep at a low level in late September. In September, Chinese aluminum smelters increased imported alumina purchase volume for fear of further price increase . In addition, the demand from refractory plants recovered . However, global alumina sellers held on from sales, expecting higher prices in Q4. In September, the imported alumina price rose by around 34% to USD430-440/t CIF China. A few major exporters looked for prices of USD460-490/t.
