AM Statistics: China's imported alumina stockpiles down by 3.2% MOM until late September

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 18 Oct 17 - Based on Asian Metal Database, China’s imported alumina stockpiles dropped by 3.2% MOM to around 300,000t until late September. Based on the data, there are around 140,000t, 120,000t and 40,000t of imported alumina in stock respectively in Lianyungang, Bayuquan and Qingdao ports respectively.
The above graph shows that imported alumina stockpiles continued to keep at a low level in late September. In September, Chinese aluminum smelters increased imported alumina purchase volume for fear of further price increase. In addition, the demand from refractory plants recovered. However, global alumina sellers held on from sales, expecting higher prices in Q4. In September, the imported alumina price rose by around 34% to USD430-440/t CIF China. A few major exporters looked for prices of USD460-490/t.
