During the first half of June, prices for manganese flake in China dropped further and to a notable extent. In mid June, as spot supply held by producers in South China became tight and producers intended to keep their prices firm, prices for the material rebounded slightly. But as the market still witnessed a supply surplus, prices were still under downward pressure and moved down again in late June. As prices were already close to production costs of some producers, the downward movement in manganese flake prices slowed down, but insiders were still pessimistic about prices in the near future, holding that prices in July will continue to dip. As for the Chinese export market, it was nevertheless inspiring in the month of June as European customers began to make purchases since late May. On outlook, the export market is expected to become quiet in July as European customers will leave for the summer holiday then.
