On April 11th, construction on Capacitive-type Ni-H Power Battery Industrial Project started in Baotou, the largest rare earth new power project in China, which was built and invested by Baotou Haoming Rare Earth New Power Technology Co., Ltd., marking that capacitive-type Ni-H power battery used in pure electric bus will enter the market in bulk. According to sources, Phase I project will achieve annual production capacity of 10,000 sets rare earth new power and related apparatus for 12m-pure electric bus.
China has the world's largest reserves of rare earth resources. With the rapid growth in output and applications of rare earth permanent magnetic materials of NdFeB, etc., tens of thousands of rare earth elements like lanthanum, cerium, etc. was isolated and stockpiled due to insufficient demand, which has has seriously affected the healthy development of rare earth industry. The birth of rare earth new power just provide a new possibility for full use of the stockpiled lanthanum, cerium, etc. According to sources. lanthanum and cerium account for more than 11% in capacitive-type Ni-H power battery. According to Han Shixing, the chairman of the company, 10,000t of hydrogen storage alloy will be consumed in production of rare earth new power for use of 10,000t buses per year, which will promote the mining, processing, terminal application and development of other supporting industries of rare earth with abundance of about 70% in total rare earth resources, providing great significance to the sustainable development of China's resources and environment.
Rare earth new power production is free in emissions of toxic and harmful substances and meanwhile the recycling use and dynamic reserves of national strategic resources like rare earth, nickel, etc. can be achieved.
