AM Statistics: Chinese aluminum smelters' electrolytic cell statistics in March 2017

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 21 Mar 17 - Asian Metal investigated the electrolytic cells of 72 running aluminum smelters in 17 provinces in China in March, and divided the electrolytic cells into four types: 100-200KA, 200-300KA,300-400KA and above 400KA. The details are as follows:
The above table demonstrates that 400KA(including)-660KA electrolytic cells cover about 26.01 million tonnes of Chinese primary aluminum capacity, accounting for about 70.6% of the total capacity. It is described that Xinjiang aluminum smelters, with the running annual capacity of 6.54 million tones, all use electrolytic cells above 400KA. In addition, 400KA-660KA electrolytic cells’ capacities in Shandong accounts for about 89.1% of the provinces’ primary aluminum running capacity.
The capacities of electrolytic cells below 200KA stand at 400,000tpy, accounting for about 1% of the total capacity and mainly located in Qinghai, Yunnan and Guizhou. The smallest running electrolytic cell is 160KA at present and situated in Guizhou province. Besides, the capacities of electrolytic cells between 200KA to 300KA are about 4.11 million tonnes and account for about 11.2% of the total capacities.
The new capacities, which will be released in 2017 and 2018, cover big electrolytic cells beyond 400KA.
