GCC aluminum production exceeds 5Mt in 2016

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 19 Jan 17 - The consolidated output of primary aluminum by the five GCC producers — Emirates Global Aluminium in UAE, Alba in Bahrain, Ma’aden Aluminium in Saudi Arabia, Qatalum in Qatar and Sohar Aluminium in Oman — was 5.22 million tonnes in 2016.
According to the Gulf Aluminum Council, GCC aluminum smelter and downstream have been going through disciplined productivity improvement and cost cutting initiatives during 2016, while maintaining key competitive advantage of having most sophisticated facilities in the production of various value-added products for local and international market.
GCC aluminum production accounts for 10% of the total global production. Downstream aluminum industries in the Gulf use 40% of the total output with the remaining exported to different regions of the world.
