Shandong to cut crude steel production by 3.44 million tons by end of Dec 2021

The Department of Ecology and Environment of Shandong province recently issued an action plan on tackling air pollution for autumn and winter of 2021-2022.
The plan highlights that no new iron and steel capacity project (except for relocation and capacity replacement projects ) shall be approved from October 1, 2021 to March 31, 2022.
According to the plan, by the end of December 2021, Shandong will relocate or cut steel-making capacity of 4.65 million tons and iron-making capacity of 5.07 million tons; reduce coking capacity of 1.8 million tons; cut crude steel production of 3.44 million tons; limit annual coke production to no more than 32 million tons; launch re-inspection on capacity reduction projects and take strict precautions against substandard steel production.
