Global crude stainless steel output up by 16.9% YoY in Q1-Q3 of 2021

According to statistics released by the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF) on December 13, in the first three quarters of 2021, the global crude stainless steel production increased by about 16.9% from the previous year to 42.98 million tons. By region, all regions saw year-on-year increases in production: the production in Europe grew by 17.9% to about 5.41 million tons, that in the United States by about 16.1% to 1.83 million tons, that in China by about 8.8% to about 23.83 million tons, and that in Asia excluding China, South Korea and Indonesia (mainly India, Japan and Taiwan of China) by 25.6% to about 5.77 million tons. The production in other regions (mainly Indonesia, South Korea, South Africa, Brazil, Russia) increased by about 50.0% to about 6.14 million tons.
In the third quarter of 2021, global crude stainless steel production reached about 13.95 million tons, down by nearly 3.9% from the previous quarter. In particular, the production in Chinese mainland, Europe and the United States decreased by nearly 5.7%, 17.4% and 15.6% from the previous quarter to about 7.59 million tons, 1.59 million tons and 552,000 tons, respectively. However, the production in Asia excluding Chinese mainland, South Korea, Indonesia and other regions grew by nearly 10.8% and 6.4% from the previous quarter to about 2.04 million tons and 2.18 million tons, respectively.
