Brazil's mining company Vale recently lowered its iron ore production forecast for this year, and at the same time, issued a lower-than-expected production forecast for 2022.
As the world's second largest iron ore producer, Vale expects this year's iron ore output to be 315-320 million tons, compared with previous expectations of 315-335 million tons. Vale expects to produce 320-335 million tons next year, which is lower than the generally expected 346 million tons.
As a major nickel supplier, Vale expects to produce 175,000-190,000 tons of nickel for rechargeable batteries and stainless steel during 2022-2023. In addition, the mining giant expects its copper output to be 330,000-355,000 tons in 2022.
