1. Market Highlights
In April, wire rod and rebar prices in Chinese major markets recorded a rise of RMB300-400/t (USD47-62/t) supported by the continuous price rise of raw materials. Steel mills became more active in production on rising profit. However, on reduced supply, prices in northern parts of China went up faster than those in southern parts of China. By the end of April, the government announced to reduce 13% export rebate to 0% for wire rod and rebar and export prices continued to move up accordingly.
In the international market, wire rod market performed better than rebar as the supply for wire rod remained a little tight. However, the demand for rebar from downstream industries remained weak, restricting prices from moving up this month.
