1 Market Highlights
1.1 Chinese origin bauxite
In December, inland alumina plants reduced production and the demand for bauxite weakened, resulting in a slight decline in bauxite price.
1.2 Imported bauxite
Production cuts at alumina plants in Shandong, Henan and Shanxi led to a contraction in demand for imported bauxite in December, while inventories of imported bauxite rose, putting downward pressure on prices.
1.3 Alumina
In December, most alumina plants in China cut production, leading to a decrease in alumina supply and an increase in price. The purchase demand for Australian alumina increased and FOB prices for the material surged.
1.4 Aluminum fluoride
In December, prices for aluminum fluoride continued to increase and the demand kept strong. The operating rate of aluminum fluoride plants hovered at a low level, which firmly supported the price . FOB prices went up.
1.5 Primary aluminum
In early-to-mid December, the primary aluminum market saw active transactions and end customers were active in purchasing. As a result, the supply of aluminum ingot was tight and the price of primary aluminum hovered at a high level . In late December, the price of primary aluminum continued to decline due to the mutation of COVID-19 in Europe.
1.6 Secondary aluminum alloy ingot
In mid-to-late December, the supply of secondary aluminum alloy ingot was tight while downstream die-casting plants had strong demand and were active in purchasing, so prices for aluminum alloy ingot ADC12 continued to increase. However, the price of the material began to fall in late December impacted by the continuous decline in primary aluminum price.
1.7 Alumina bar
In December, the demand for aluminum bar continued to decline, and almost all the architectural profile enterprises in Hebei, Northeast China and Shandong have suspended production for the Spring Festival holiday. Aluminum bar producers saw higher inventories and reduced production.
