China will resolutely cut the output of crude steel to ensure a year-on-year decline in 2021, and efforts will be ramped up to promote low-carbon industrial development and green manufacturing projects next year based on the goal to peak carbon dioxide emissions by 2030 and achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, said Xiao Yaqing, Minister of Industry and Information Technology, at a work conference.
During the 13th Five-Year Plan period (2016-2020), China saw continuous improvements in its green manufacturing level and met its target of reducing steel production capacity by 150 million tonnes ahead of schedule, with the energy consumption per unit of industrial output by Chinese enterprises above designated size also down significantly.
According to the conference, China will release new measures for capacity replacement in the energy-consuming steel industry and improve the early-warning mechanism for production capacity information.
