POSCO announces purchase results for manganese flake for January

BEIJING (Asian Metal) 17 Dec 20 - POSCO, the world's fifth largest steel mill, released purchase result for January's manganese flake 99.7%min yesterday. The final price stands at USD1,999/t CIF South Korea, up by USD350/t from last month. The final purchase volume stands at 1,026t, down by 2,166t from last month.
"We plan to purchase about 5,244t at the beginning, but most suppliers offered more than USD2,000/t CIF South Korea, we could not accept it, then we finally just purchased about 1,026t," A source from this company disclosed yesterday, adding that the bidding quantity of POSCO dropped by 2,166t but the price rose by USD350/t from last month. According to suppliers who participated in the bids, POSCO's purchase price higher than last month, mainly because most suppliers lifted their prices a lot and the freight increased. The current mainstream prices of Chinese manganese flake 99.7%min stand at RMB12,300-12,500/t (USD1,872-1,903/t) EXW D/P, up by RMB1,300/t (USD198/t) from late last week. After negotiations, the company finally purchased at USD1,999/t.

They usually purchase about 4,500t of manganese flake 99.7%min one month, and purchased 3,192t last month and 1,026t for January. With a purchase volume of 47,225t in 2019, they purchased 41,552t so far in 2020.
Currently, the mainstream export prices of Chinese manganese flake 99.7%min stand at USD1,950-1,980/t FOB China, up by USD120/t from late last week.
