Tianjin to adopt much stricter measures to contain air pollution

To improve Tianjin's air quality and to drive down its number of poor-air-quality days notably, Tianjin government recently announced a much stricter anti-air-pollution three-year action plan
To achieve those goals, the government will adopt the following measures:
To prohibit building new production capacities of steel, coking, electrolytic aluminum, casting, cement, sheet glass and so on;
To develop and expand green industries, clean production industries and clean energy industries; Regarding residential heating, the government plans to cut coal consumption and replace it with natural gas consumption;
To further eliminate surplus and backward production capacities. By the year of 2020, Tianjin is expected to cut poor-quality steel production capacity by 6 . 9 million tons . Existing surplus production capacities of steel, cement and sheet glass should be cut by the way of capacity replacement.

Goals included in the action plan are as follows: by the year of 2020, the annual average PM2.5 density in Tianjin will reach the level of around 52mcg/m3, the number of good-air-quality days in Tianjin's urban and rural districts account for 71% of the annual total days, and the number of their very-poor-air-quality days drop by 25% from that in 2015.
