In mid-January, the operation of some sub arc furnaces was started in Ningxia, dampening the confidence in the spot market and silicomanganese prices declined accordingly. Up till Jan 16, prices for SiMn 65/17 had slipped to RMB7,900-8,100/t (USD1,250-1,281/t) Inc-VAT EXW D/P . From late January, prices for raw material manganese ore started to rise, pushing up the cost for silicomanganese. Thus, silicomanganese prices started to rebound after decreases with mainstream prices up by RMB350/t (USD55.36/t) to RMB8,250-8,450/t (USD) Inc-VAT EXW D/P in late the month compared with those in mid-January . Based on decreasing enquires, silicomanganese prices faced high resistance in increase, which stayed at current level temporarily.
In early January, manganese ore prices started to decline slightly due to weakening silicomanganese prices with limited purchases at ports. However, manganese ore prices rebounded from mid-January due to further surging prices for silicomanganese with prices for mainstream ores up by RMB3-4/dmtu (USD0 . 48-0.64/dmtu) . Consumers made centralized purchases in mid-January, helping manganese ore prices firm at high level.
