1. Market Highlights
Purchasing prices from steel mills of HC ferrochrome for January increased by RMB200/t (USD31.76/t) to RMB7,100-7,300/t (USD1,127-1,159/t) VAT included delivered D/P, both overseas prices for South African chrome ore and spot prices for chrome ore at Chinese ports moved up; in addition, lots of ferrochrome producers in Guizhou and Hunan suspended production owing to electricity supply restriction, all resulting in the continuous price increase of Chinese ferrochrome in spot market in February to over RMB8,000/t (USD1,270/t) VAT included EXW D/P. By the end of the month, purchasing prices from steel mills of HC ferrochrome for February further went up by RMB600/t (USD95.49/t), however, approaching the Spring Festival, most downstream buyers still made purchases from hand to mouth. The spot market saw few transactions of ferrochrome, but as prices for raw material chrome ore remained firm, analyst predicted a basically stable spot market condition of ferrochrome in February.
