Chinese rare earth market suffered with slack season in August, with few inquiries, rare deals and continuously low prices in the spot market
The rare earth export market remained inactive over the past month, exporters held their prices stable due to price inversion and had no intention to lower their offers further. As European and American countries were spending their summer break, the overseas demand softened . By the end of the August, exporters believed that the export market would be more active in September with the returning back of the overseas participants.

As most separation plants had halted production since late July due both to the price inversion and the government’s inspection of environmental protection, mainstream producers were in no hurry to sell and preferred to hold watchful attitudes . The reducing offers in mid-August from the North Rare Earth Group had a bad effect on the market prices of PrNd and dysprosium products, defeating insiders’ psychology expectation on reviving prices in latter half of the month . In addition, the demand from sintered NdFeB magnet industry decreased impacted by the reducing orders mainly from wind power electricity industry . By the end of August, the rare earth separation plants resumed production, while parts of them kept out of production .
