In the absence of any improvement in downstream demand, Chinese steel plate prices nationwide continued to slide and the markdown was greater in some markets than in others in August. During the month, many steel mills lowered their ex-works prices, which sent a negative signal to the spot market. However, the price is very low compared with the corresponding period last year. Insiders predict that steel plate prices are likely to rebound in September with an improvement in demand expected.
