Of all the metals that belong to the minor metal category, indium indeed, is unique in the sense of the significant price increase of close to twenty times from as low as USD60/kg in 2002 to soaring to USD1,000/kg in 2005.
And following a relative stability, it fluctuated in the following years and by the end of 2007, it stood at USD500/kg, half the mainstream price-level of 2005. Reacting to the unstable and volatile market, many smelters were forced to significantly reduce, and some others halted, production. Entering the 2008 with this uncertainty, the questions many are asking is, what will happen to the market in 2008? Will it walk out of the current stagnant position?
At the policy level, how does the Chinese government regulation and trade regimes in the past two years impact the export market? How will global indium producers handle the continuously slow indium market and greet the potential turnaround?
Given the above, will ITO manufacturers increase purchase of primary indium in accordance with fast growing flat panel display industry, and to what extent the dependence on recycled indium will change the purchase volume? How fast are non-ITO consuming industries (such as CIGS solar cells and solders) growing?
To address these numerous issues require the gathering of stakeholders, and Asian Metal is taking the lead in inviting and bringing professional analysts and big players to discuss the above topics. The forum is committed to building a successful global indium platform to cover indium production, recovery, trade, consumption and researches.
