After World Cobalt Forum 2009, World Cobalt Forum 2010 was successfully held by Asian Metal, the co-organizers of Hunan Yacheng New Materials Development Co., Ltd. and China Stainless Steel Exchange on April 2 in Changsha. More than 200 representatives from 130 companies attended the meeting and exchanged ideas about hot topics on cobalt market.

On the morning of April 2, manager and the senior analyst of Minor Metals Department from Asian Metal, Bruce Zhang addressed the welcome speech. Liao Yangqing, the Vice General Manager of Hunan Yacheng New Materials Development Co., Ltd. analyzed the status of battery materials and the prospects of the battery market. After that, Zeng Yuewu, the Chief Technical Expert from Ningbo Jinhe New materials Co., Ltd. made a wonderful report on the Current Status of Lithium Nickel Cobalt Manganese Oxide Market & the Future Outlook on the Demand of Cobalt from Lithium Battery Industry.

Rachel Lees, the analyst of London Metal Exchange introduced how to control risk by LME cobalt trading. At last, the Vice General Manager of China Steel Exchange, Qian Haiyun stated that Forward electronic transactions and its functions.

The conference ended in the afternoon after the long-waited hot discussion with many influential makret players taking part.

Discussion I: the status quo of supply and demand of lithium battery and the future outlook

The paticipants are consisted of Li Fengmei, President Assistant from Shenzhen BAK Battery Co., Ltd. , Su Yingchun from CITIC Guoan Mengguli Power Source Technology Co., Ltd. ,Tang Shunguo, Executive President from Hunan Reshine New Materials Co., Ltd and Peng Wenjie, General Manager from Hunan Shanshan Advanced Material Co., Ltd

The participants of this group hold pessimistic attitude towards the cobalt consumption in the battery industry. They believe that the proportion of cobalt in battery industry will gradually reduce and the cobalt market will be oversupplied in the short run.

Here are some ideas shared by those participants:

Li Fengmei:

Cobalt will be gradually replaced by other cathode materials in battery. Because of the frequently fluctuating cobalt price, the risk of downstream factories is high, and downstream factories tend to use low-cobalt content or non-cobalt containing materials to replace lithium cobalt oxide. BAK has set up the research institutions in Canada and invest RMB100,000,000 to develop the advanced battery to enter into the high-end market.

Tang Shunguo:

1、Lithium cobalt oxide will be replaced in the future, which is inevitable from the cost and the trend of battery materials. Japan has begun to learn from South Korea to use the low-cobalt and non-cobalt materials.

2、The current cobalt price is abnormal, and it is manipulated by upstream industries, so we will not wait helplessly. Reshine is making effort to develop the low-cobalt and non-cobalt materials.

3、Holding pessimistic about the future price of cobalt, and thinking that it is oversupplied, and cobalt prices will fall.

Peng Wenjie:

1、Low-cobalt or non-cobalt products will gradually take the place of lithium cobalt oxide.

2、The upstream and downstream industry chain is getting longer, which disrupted the normal division in cobalt market.

3、Battery factories should put more importance on D&R, to enter into the high-end market to get more profit.

Su Yingchun:

1、The new production capacity is not focused on lithium cobalt oxide.

2、It is not wise to enlarge the chain. Hoping every company does best for their own product.

Discussion II: The Status Quo of supply and demand in Chinese cobalt market

The guests are consisted of Shao Boxuan, Director of Zhejiang Galico Cobalt & Nickel Material Co. Ltd., Wang Huijie, Vice President of Zhejiang Huayou Cobalt Co.,Ltd. , Wu Lijue, Director of Jiayuan Cobalt Holdings Limited. and Zhang Baoyu, President of Jiangsu Xiongfeng Technology Corp., Ltd.

The participants are relatively optimistic about cobalt market, and the focus of the topic is on how to become bigger and stronger in Chinese cobalt industry.

Shao Baixuan:

1、He is optimistic about cobalt industry.

2、The cobalt industry is full of challenges and difficulties.

3、There should be more cooperation among cobalt enterprises.

Zhang Baoyu:

Jiangsu Xiongfeng Technology Corp., Ltd. develops new product as cobalt powder to reduce risk.

Wang Huijie:

1、The most important thing is to control resources. Huayou has entered Africa in order to control cobalt.

2、It is oversupplied in cobalt salts market. At the same time, Huayou plans to invest RMB620,000,000 to set up two new factories.

3、Enterprises should keep long-term cooperation in mind.

4、Enterprises should emphasize research and innovation.

Wu Lijue:

Downstream factories should put more importance on R&D. Upstream factories should not extend too much, which is not conducive to the development of the industry.
